It is a branched-chain amino acid synthesis (ALS/AHAS) inhibitor. It acts by inhibiting the biosynthesis of essential amino acids like valine and isoleucine, thereby stopping cell division and plant growth. It is selective due to rapid metabolism (demethylation of methoxy group) in the crop.
